A people-centered development organization working for the poor and underprivileged of Bangladesh since 1998.
Integrated Rural Development Center (IRDC) was established in 1998 by a group of young men and women united by a common purpose — to help the poor and underprivileged people of Bangladesh improve their overall socio-economic status.
Founded on a set of core beliefs about the basic problems facing rural people — illiteracy, ill health, unemployment, civic inertia, and environmental hazards — IRDC operates from the conviction that people have the inherent power to solve their own problems, but need opportunity, resources, and civic rights to do so.
IRDC's development philosophy is essentially humanist, holistic, and people-centered — aiming to empower communities by developing their intellectual, productive, physical, and organizational potential so they can take responsibility for their own self-reliance and sustainable development.
To develop a society that is socially just, ecologically sound, and more satisfying in human terms — beyond the growth-obsessed paradigm of today.
Enabling the poor people through developing their potentials in such a way that they can identify their self-development and build a path to self-reliance.
Improve the overall socio-economic condition of target communities through institution building, improving skills, launching income-generating activities, and developing management capabilities.
Organize target peoples into groups to develop unity, solidarity, and collective strength for individual and collective development.
Help communities develop consciousness and awareness about their position in the social system.
Make illiterate group members and community men and women literate through non-formal education programs.
Provide basic health services through domiciliary, satellite, and static clinical services to improve health conditions.
Provide technical, training, and credit support for income-generating activities to improve economic conditions.
Address needs of persons with disabilities, respond to natural calamities, and support HIV/AIDS awareness and rehabilitation.
IRDC normally works through a group approach — organizing target communities into groups and delivering support and services to individual members through those groups.
The organization works as an animator, stimulator, and cooperator in the development process — guided by the principle: "build on what they have, and let people build their own fortunes."
